Did you know that there are multiple steps you can take to help reduce your wait time at the pharmacy?!

  • Ordering medications ahead of time

The more notice you're able to give us the better. When given several days notice we're able to have the appropriate quantity of your medication in stock. Or if you're in need of refills it allows for time to contact your doctor/nurse practitioner for prescription renewals. MacDonnell Pharmacy offers multiple ways for you to submit your refill requests - stop in at the pharmacy, give us a call, our online refill service, or even use the Guardian app!

  • Monitoring your refill quantities

In Nova Scotia prescriptions are valid for 12 months from the date that they're written - no matter how many refills are written for. Keeping track of your remaining refills is an easy way to ensure you're not out of refills when you're due or overdue to have your prescription filled. MOST Doctors offices locally now require patients contact the office requesting refills before the pharmacy is able to send off the Re-Authorization request. This can take some time which is why it's imporant to book regular appointments and monitor your refills.

Taking these proactive steps can significantly improve your pharmacy experience and ensure that you receive your medications in a timely manner. By ordering your medications ahead of time, you not only help the pharmacy prepare by having the necessary stock available but also allow for any necessary prescription renewals to be processed without delays. MacDonnell Pharmacy provides convenient options for submitting your refill requests, making it easier for you to manage your prescriptions efficiently. Monitoring your refill quantities is crucial in ensuring that you never run out of medication when needed. Understanding the validity period of prescriptions in Nova Scotia and keeping track of your remaining refills can prevent any last-minute rushes or delays in getting your medications refilled. With many doctors' offices now requiring patients to request refills directly, staying on top of your refill needs by scheduling regular appointments and monitoring your prescriptions is essential for a seamless pharmacy experience.
